I've tried see thru rings and on some guys with a high cheek piece I like them okay, however on most guns I think they are worthless.

I have 4 or 5 hunting buddies that use them and like them. They recommended them to me. I then read online about how others didn't like them. Not knowing what to thing when I got the Genesis a few years back I got a set of see thru mounts for it just to try out. I was going to have to go with high rings on that setup anyway to clear the cam part that flips up. On that gun to me it had a high stock at the cheek piece, higher than I'm used to anyway, and I actually could get a decent cheek weld with the see thru rings. I rarely used open sights, but I did sight them in for close distances so I could use those if a super short shot presented itself. I then sighted the scope in for 100%. Honestly, I liked this setup just fine and to me they just worked on this gun.

However, I've tried them on other guns that have lower combs on the stock, and I don't like them at all. You have to hold your head off of the stock and it's hard to get a good sight picture.

I think my hunting friends like them because they are running $30-50 scopes and want them just in case they fail. Heck one of them doesn't even have a front sight on his gun anymore as the sight post fell out, yet he still uses those.

One hunting friend has a pair on his rifle, that his son put on there when he mounted a scope as he claims they are great. My buddy doesn't shoot very often other than when hunting, and really doesn't know much at all about rifles. However, he is always complaining that he can't get a quick sight picture through the scope. I tried to tell him to ditch the POS rings, but his son has convinced him that's not the problem even though it's very obvious it is.

So I guess some people like them, and I can like them on some guns, but on others there are much better options imo.

That being said, some guys like super low rings, and low rings too, and to me I can't get a good cheek weld with those either. To me medium rings are almost the perfect height for me in most cases.
