To tell you the absolute truth, ive never seen any SML data with the GD/DCs. No one on Dougs seems to use them. I can only guess the 300gr HP in either 452 or 458 should work well IF the cupped base isnt a problem. I really dont know whats going to happen at that speed.

I sure wouldn't push them into the 2500fps range. That is brutal recoil and not really needed. Thats in the 4000fpe range at the muzzle. I shoot the 325gr FTX at near 2300fps and i cant imagine a deer within 200 yards not getting a pass through AND good expansion. My load is a near duplicate of the 450 Marlin which beats most 45/70 data.

IMO stick to 2200-2300 with a 300gr and you will be happy with it on deer. There are lots of good 300gr bullets, pick one and try them out. Very few 300gr bullets will fail to pass through on deer.
