The 240Wby IS essentially a "24/06" with the pre-requisite Wby belt and double radius shoulder added to an 06 case. The 240 Wby shell holds 64grns of water and the 243Win holds 55grns. Other than the Rocket (22) think it's about the worse seller Wby had. Doesn't mean it was a bad round, but other than the 243Win, America just never has been a 6mm market on a large scale.

I want to say Lazzeroni initially offered or at least toyed with a 6mm pill in his shortmag case (capacity wise comparable to a 300Wby but in a short action length case) but they aren't listed in his offerings now. Based on what the case drives 25 cals it should drive 6mm bullets in the 3800-4000+fps. I have had a Lazzeroni Warbird (long action 30cal) since his first batch of Sako TRGs were offered in 1999. When you start driving hunting bullets at 38-4k+ fps you BETTER stick with super tough bullets like those from Barnes etc or you're going to needlessly destroy alot of meat, capes and trophies. But make NO mistake, any projectile doing 4k fps produces laser like trajectories, awesome retained energies and penetration and 400yd shots are suddenly childsplay and little more than "point and click" assuming you have good optics, a good rest and know the rifle prior to opening morning.

All that being said, most folks just don't trust the little 6mm as much as they should. Honestly with respects to terminal performance a quality 24cal 100 grain bullet traveling 3500fps will do anything a quality 25cal 100grain bullet traveling 3500fps will do!!! I've owned a 25/06 and my boys both have 243s and with Barnes bullets in either you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference in real world effects on deer sized game. But realistically I've always felt that when most folks buy a 6mm they are doing it for 1-2 main reasons, they want 1 gun that is suitable for varmints and deer sized game and/or they are buying a big game rifle for light recoil for either women/kids or they just to enjoy smaller guns themselves. When you start hot rodding the 6mms with big cases and alot of powder you kind of start taking away their allure and if you are going to put up with more muzzle blast and recoil you might as well shoot a bigger bullet. A whitetail shot at 300yds with a 6mm bullet isn't going to be able to tell you if it came from a 243, a 6mmRem or a 240Wby.

IMHO spend some honest time with the 243 and quality bullets and you'll only grow to love it more with each passing year...
