This might sound funny but Hoppe's #9 when I smell it I think of my Dad. It was the only gun cleaner he would use, and I remember him sitting in the kitchen cleaning his guns with that and telling us boys all the highlights of the hunting that day. The smell does not bother me at all.
But I do use Montana X-treme Cowboy Solvent to clean rifles, Hoppe's, Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber, Butch's Black Powder cleaner, and other home made cleaners. That Montana is some good stuff.
