I love my VX-1 scope its a 3x9 Matte. I have no expierance with the 7MM short mag but I would think that if you need a Magnum, it would be as good as any. I would also consider the 270 Short mag as I think it fills a nich only occupied by the 270 Weatherby mag. That ones to expensive and hard to find ammo for in my opinion. You may or may not have the same trouble with the 7mm Short mag. It depends on where you live and if you reload or not. I have my VX-1 on a 257 Roberts.
