Apex is now sealed up
Last night i had an idea to use a pop can and the paper hole puncher and cut out some nice little round discs and see if they'd fit the primer pocket of the Apex' breech plug. It was a perfect fit and snug. I ended up making a few and found that 3 of these shims " 2 aluminum and one very thin brass shim stock shim" adjusted the head space perfect and allowed for a slight crush fit.
I drill holes in the shims today and tried 2 of them in the plug, took 3 shots and noticed just a tiny bit of soot inside the frame, cleaned it at the house and added one more shim for a total of 3.
Ended up firing 12 shots total and ZERO primer blow by.
I also ran into an excellent shooting load that just needs some minor tweaking and that load was 60gr BH209 and coreys custom cast .451" 405gr bullet in a harvester black smooth sabot. This Apex loved that load. Once i sat down to see how accurate they were, if i allowed the barrel to cool down, they'd cut holes at 50 yards. So this is a load i really want to experiment with more later on. I call that bullet the Big Nasty!
Absolutely beautiful cool day of 85* and perfect for some experimenting.
I do think i will try to find an actual washer to take the shims place as it will be beefier. I just hate the filing to fit part LOL.
