I do underwater video which requires a lot of editing so can make some suggestions. If you are using Windows or XP there is or should be Windows Movie Maker already instaled in the system. It's fairly basic and should get you started.

If you find that you need something more, but simple to use, then Power Director or Corel Video Studio can work well. Unless you are using a lot of transitions and/or color correcting you don't need to get anything elaborate.

Pay attention to system requirments. Editing HD video requires s decent computer and if you intend to store the footage on your puter then buy an excternal drive to do so. It takes about 11Gig of hard drive to store 1 hr of HD video.
