At the beginning of the deer season I load three or four guns with GOEX (clean dry barrel, no cap snapped). Those loads stay in the gun until I shoot something or the end of the three-month season (sometimes well after the end of the season). Never had a rust problem. Never had a misfire. On the caplocks, I remove the cap at the end of a day's hunt and lower the hammer with a patch over the nipple. On the flinter, I brush the powder from the pan and lower the frizzen on a patch.
