What Breeding Phase are the Turkeys in???
In se Minnesota, turkeys are 7-10 days ahead of normal schedule. Peak Gobbing tradtionally occurs during the second week of April - this Peak Gobbling Phase phase typically lasts 7-14 days. It is followed by the First Gobbling Lull, when toms are generaly with hens and do not Gobble to the hens to attract them, because they are with the hens and may follow them all day, and roost with them at night.
To find out when Peak Gobbling ocurs in your area Google "Peak Turkey Gobbling Dates".
After my Turkey Hunting School students and I have watched at least 9 different flocks all week long, it is very clear that the birds are in the First Gobbling Lull ... All of the hens
had toms with them, and we are hearing virtually no gobbling after 7 AM.
Find a lone time looking for a hen(s) to call to; or pattern the birds, figure out where the birds go to feed and strut at different times of the morning, get there before the birds do, and call, decoy or amush them.
God bless,
