But why the heck is it that most of my ball guns like the .018 pillow tick? There's just something special about that stuff. I've tried .013 linen, .016 very tight weave cotton (an old table cloth), .018 pillow tick, .020 denim and .022 denim in most of my guns, and the pillow tick almost always comes out on top, usually followed by the table cloth.

Thirty years ago, I started out with pillow tick material and it always shot good. Most of us shot bore butter back then as the lube. As muzzle loading started to grow, we had pre cut come on the market. So I went to them and never got the same kind of results. Then I started trying every kind of pre cut patch, pre lubed, that came out. But I finally went back to pillow tick that I cut from the muzzle, and that seems to work the best in my roundball guns. But it is fun to try different things. Also this new .50 caliber Trade rifle (only the third time I shot it) is a real shooter.
