I layer as well. On top, however, is always leafy stuff. I have the Cabelas ghil-leaf pants, which is by far the best leafy stuff I have ever had...tough, and has belt loops, and a Realtree pro-series lightweight jacket. On colder, early season mornings I may wear some UA stuff underneath, and on warmer days and afternoons I will wear just my undies underneath. They are good for keeping you pretty cool, as they are mesh-like. +1 on the vest comment. I do have a full vest, and it can get you hot in a hurry. I may look into a strap-style vest, but haven't done so yet.
