The Thompson Center Hawken is a mis-named modern muzzleloading rifle. Somebody ought to sue them; they ought to rename the thing out of professional consideration for the muzzleloading community. We are not stupid--a little research reveals the true style of a real plains era rifle, and the T/C Hawken is not it. The Renegade, however, is more to the specs.
I always thought the CVA Mountain Rifle was a very good plains rifle. The Lyman GPR is also quite good, and I own one in .54 flintlock.
Another good one was the Navy Arms Hawken, but I haven't heard much from them since the 80s.
