Sounds like he's one of those you need to leave your calls in the truck for. A good flap of the hat against your leg at sun up might be enough to make him fly down and run right to you. That flydown hat flap could just be the trick to get this old boy to come my way. I was just now going to get on Google Earth and see what the terrain looked like in the direction he was headed. He actually hit the ground and left before all of his hens had made it to his location. Should be a fun bird to hunt.
As far as making calls. I do woodworking for a hobby so I make box and pot calls in my spare time. Never tried my hand at mouth calls. This year, I am going to go into the woods with only calls that I have made. ( owl, crow, box and a few pots)
