I have hunted Colorado #76 somewhere around 10 times over the years. It is a good unit with mostly public land, but access to some areas can be tricky. High elevation, steep slopes, and game that moves with the weather. It takes a big pile of points to draw a tag for a nonresident, and it gets worse every year.
The elk are there in good numbers, but the average size of their racks is a bit smaller than some other areas. Most of the six point bulls that I have seen taken in this area would score well under 300", but there are a few better ones (300"- 320") taken occasionally. The number of bull tags makes this area attractive, but you will run into a bunch of cow hunters (many on horseback) in the second, third, and fourth seasons.
This is not an area that holds a big herd of mule deer, and they usually move down (out of the unit) with the big snows. Although deer are not there in big numbers, I have seen a couple of very large old bucks.
