Default My first recovery!

. . .of a bullet.

I’ve been shooting the Speer GDHP/Deep Curls for two years now. At the range, I’ve used the 240gr (in .44 cal), 300gr and 250 gr, all with good accuracy. In the field, I’m using the 240gr with 110gr of BH209, green CR sabot, out of my X7.

Took a fat doe yesterday at about 60-70yds from the tree stand. She did a little “buck” and ran about 40yds and piled up. Got down from the stand and looked for where she was standing at the shot. Could not at first find any blood but did find the bullet just lying in the snow. I guess it expended 99% of its energy in the doe with just enough to fall out the other side. Then I found a spot or two. Kept tracking and all of a sudden found quite a bit of blood. Kept tracking and next found massive spray patterns like out of CSI. Few feet more and there she was. She must have thrashed about a bit since it looked like a horror scene. Took some pics with my cel phone but have not figured yet how to download them. On the field dress, the facing leg/shoulder was broke and the lungs destroyed. The heart was intact, which probably accounted for the blood sprays, pumping to the last.

Anyways, here is the bullet.

I don’t have a scale so I can’t say what it weighs, but it looks like it might have lost a few petals. In pretty good shape given it went through the front shoulder and took out a couple of ribs upon exit.

I am sold on these bullets. For the price ($26 for 100!) the 240s can’t be beat.
