I am trying to hunt most importantly deer. I would really like to go after a bear. So I really just wanted a caliber that I can do anything with. As far as terrain woods and not sure on distance, never gone hunting. What does everyone recommend?
Of course it depends on what type of range you are looking to shoot. Yes a 30-06 is a great cartridge up to about 250 yards. If you are like me and have a lease that you get 400+ yards all the time then no you dont want a 30-06. And as far as the "short mag" quote I own almost every popular deer caliber from a 243 to a 338. My favorite would have to be the 325 WSM for all around game, Whitetail to Moose. The only downfall is the availability and price of the ammo, but when you own a firearm retail store then its pretty easy to obtain. . I also love the 300 WSM. But heck I have killed plenty of deer with a .223, so its all personal preference I think.

If I could only keep 1 gun it would definately be my Browning X Bolt Special Hunter in the 325 WSM. The weight of this gun is perfect, the trigger is superb, and this type of accurace from a 220 grain bullet is unheard of!!
