I went out on the first day of Iowa's late m-loader season to sit in my stand. I had an antlerless tag for the county North of me. I'd seen lots of deer in this timber and was feeling lucky. But by 4:30, I was wondering if I'd even see a deer. At 4:40 I spotted one and then several more appeared. A small one stood near me, but I felt it was too small to shoot. Then a 6 pt basket rack buck came in. Finally a nice doe came into range.
I put my sight on the vitals and squeezed the trigger and hardly heard the shot. No boom! There was no smoke. The deer ran off.........
But everything felt so good! So I waited a bit and went to where the deer was standing when I shot. About 12 inches of snow. Hair! Blood!
Gotcha! In Iowa a bow is legal in our second m-loader season and I was hunting an area where I had to use my bow. The doe only ran about 60 yards and will taste so good.
