I know lots of people who have hunting dogs in the city and suburbs. They will never hunt them and that's great. As long as they exercise the dog sufficiently, it doesn't seem like there should be a problem. I'm not saying you should take a Catahoula and leave it in your studio ten hours a day. If you have a more relaxed dog like a lab and it does get enough exercise, then why not? City folks don't demand that you give up plumbing or electricity because the city is where it originated.
