Ditto about the wind at long range while using the .17HMR. I bought a CZ-452 American in that caliber and it will put 10 shots inside a nickle at 75 yards all day long, but stretch the range to 100 yards, and the wind blows that little .17 grain bullet all over.
For a dedicated squirrel gun, check out the T/C .22 semi-auto. It's a tack driver as well and cheaper to shoot.
