There is an old quote from a famous bank robber when asked why he robbed banks replied, "Because that is where the money is." The same with special interest groups and the United States.

Most 'causes' are more motivated by power and money than by the advance of their particular agenda. There are some exceptions, of course. The U.S. is full of people who will throw money at a problem regardless of whether the problem is real or imagined. We, the citizens, are generous to a fault.
