I know there is a lot of folks out there that try to 'anchor' animal but shooting the shoulders out - so it is not uncommon. If were into that I do not think I would use a lead copper bullet unless it was a Nosler or the lead/copper bullet was bonded.... Well shoot after saying that I know a guy that does it all the time with a solid lead bullet - but it is a 460 grain conical. When that thing hits a deer in the shoulder bone it really pushes them sideways and to their knees.
When I shoot a normal lead/copper bullet and I am shooting the shoulder area - I am going in behind the shoulder.... ribs are not as hard.
