Default RE: Glass bedding vs. pillar bedding

I think pillar bedding is something a gunsmith cooked up to make extra money. probably only benefitting match competitors and their like ..I have never noticed one iota difference between pillar bedding and regular glass bedding. I only see one benefit of pillar bedding(if done right ) and it depends on the quality of your stock whether wood or fiberglass...it will keep the stock from compressing so the screws can be torqued the same everytime the gun is broken down., obviously if you have a strong stock you probably don' t need pillar bedding but the factory stocks nowadays leave a lot to be desire.. There are custom gunsmiths that only install one pillar and leave the other alone(Melvin Forbes) for example...I have seen some pillar bedding jobs that raised the hackles on my neck and the guns plain sucked after it was done....There is no substitute for proper action bedding and along with that if a thin barrel is used putting a pressure point on the barrel or if a thick barrel bedding the barrel shank and leaving the rest floating or complete barrel bedding which is also a good idea...
