I think too much hype is place on the whitetail as being some kind of 'super critter'. Yes, they do have a good nose and sometimes I swear they have a 6th sense. But, my thoughts are if you are cautious in your approach, practice scent control and noise you can hunt an area alot. Over the past couple of years I've hunted the same general area. I spray down every time before I go in to my stand site that I selected way back in July or August. I began tracking time spent in the stand and this year I spent 126 hours in the same stand during archery season. I was able to recognize individual deer after seeing them on a regular basis, does, buck and finally the nice one that I ended up slipping an arrow into. I say go out and find a good location with good sign, sit back and have fun and let it happen.
