In doing some research on this topic in taxidermy forums, I have learned that tanning bearskin is much more difficult than a deers due to the much fattier nature of the beast. Home kits have a reputation of doing a poor job of removing the fat, so the hide is not ever fully cured. If you have a hide you dont care too much about, try it. Otherwise if it is a trophy hide, I recommend having it sent to a commercial tanner.
