The hot core is made with molten lead poured into the jacket to help eliminate jacket/core separation. Basically it acts much like a bonded bullet. I have fired hot core bullets into wet sand and the lead remained attached to the jacket.

The regular BTSP is nothing more than a standard cup and core bullet.
