Well I had a sort of fantastic day today (Nov 6). Got to my stand before light. Heard something walking around and trying to locate what and where it was got busted by a deer. All I saw was a white tail running thru the woods in the pre dawn light. About 9:45 I caught movement to my right in time to se a big buck running in my direction at about 50 yds. But before I could grab the bow off the bow hook he slammed on the brakes, wheeled around and ran back the way he came to about 35 yds. By this time I was drawn and waiting. But when he turned broadside and I released the arrow he was on such high alert that he ducked down at least a foot and the arrow flew right over his back. I probably should have left him walk or at least waited for him to calm down a bit (wish I was using my ML). About 45 mins later a 6 point snuck up behind me and also picked up my scent. Damn wind was shifting in all directions today - and always seemed to have deer coming downwind of me. But the day aint over yet. Went out in the afternoon and had a 4 pt (long spikes and brow tines) come in and dance around for about 15 mins. Of course - he wasn't legal. Then right at 6:15 just about quitting time I see the outline of a deer about 75 yds out. As it started getting closer, it turned and pralleled me getting no closer than 60 yds. But I thought the one I missed in the morning was big!? This guy was even bigger. In the fast fading light I could see his white rack and long tines. Bugger walked right up the trail I walked in on and probably right past my truck. At my age I can't hear as good as I used to and I am hunting too close to the highway to use any amplifying devices (the road noise is deafening when using them). And the leaves are wet from the rains making matters worse.
But it was one hell of a day for sure. Even if I didn't get anything.
