I was in a pocket in a really thick spot... not much of an area to shoot. Deer came in and made a scrape about 15 yards out, but no shot offered... then he turned and came right in under me... about 5 yards away facing me... I was up about 22 feet in my climber. I put it right between his shoulders and tried to get spine and vitals, or vitals if I missed spine... long story short, I must have hit him back a bit farther than I thought. Arrow blew right through him and there was blood everywhere at impact and the arrow was painted red. Good blood, then is started to taper out... then would pick up again.
I must have hit liver and come out gut (but no gut residue on arrow whatsover). I believe the gut must have plugged up exit hold right underneath... he would blow a clot or loosen it up every once in awhile and bleed good again, then plug back up.
I think we must have jumped him up, but never found the bed, and he just went on that liver / gut death run...
We should have backed out earlier on... but it was a strange track job and I truly thought I had hit him better.
