I got a Marlin 30-30 topped with a Redfield 4X scope when I was 14 yrs old. 22 years later, it's still my primary deer rifle. I usually hunt a pretty thick area during gun season where the longest shot might be 60 yards. It's perfect for that.
Occassionally I'll hunt a field edge where I very well could have a 200+ yard shot. There I'll take my old Savage 7 mag with Swift 4.5x14 scope.
