Gettin started?
I am interested in fox and coyote hunting. My grandfather has been seein and hearing a lot of coyotes lately on his farm. He has 200 acres of woods and plenty of fields. I was wondering what would be the best way to hunt the coyotes. Either in the woods or on the treeline of the fields at night? He saw a coyote a couple weeks ago in the middle of the day run up through the field and past his barn. By the time he grabbed his gun it was gone. I have a .12 gauge and a .22 mag. I guess the .12 gauge would work if I hunt the woods and the .22 mag should work in the fields, correct? I was wondering if I needed more fire power for them in the field than a .22 mag. I'd like to get a .223 or .243 anyways, but would the .22 mag work in the meantime? What is a better caliber for them the .223 or .243? I was also wondering where I can find a quality cordless red lens spotlight? What about electronic callers? I was looking at the Foxpro Spitfire. Is this a good caller and is it worth the money? Would you recommend a different brand that is just as good, but cheaper? Is a rabbit type decoy a must have? How long do you typically call them for? Do you leave it on most of the time while hunting or do you just do it sporatically in spurts?
