But I also took the 45 GM LRH percussion out and that also shot really good. That barrel is on a T/C Hawken stock and I have a tang peep on it. The first 2 shots were touching at 50 yds about 3" high. I lowered the peep down a bit, swabbed the bore and the next shot was in the bull, 1" high. I picked out a rock about 10" in diameter on the side hill where we place our 100 yd targets and even with the smoke blocking my view I knew it was a hit because of the very audible smack from the bullet. The charge in that rifle is 80 gr of Pyro P and a 200 gr .40 XTP with a blue Havester CR sabot.
Mid October we have an early ML season here in PA where any ML is legal. Depending on where I hunt I have my choice of rifle. Long range I'll take the Knight with the scope and short range, I'll take the .45. I know my two 50 cal percussions will get mad but you cant take them all.
Yea I've come to the Conclusion that Most Scopes are pretty tough and can take a Pounding! They must as I use to put many Magunum Charges (150gr's) through mine at the range and they really pack a wallop and that alone (to me) is more than just a ML fallin to the ground, and the Scope took the beatin, and so did My Shoulder, minus the Back and Blue Marks!
Bronco, is there any truth to using a Percussion in PA with (Sabots and a Scope) this year?? I ran into a Friend who owns some Hunting Land in PA and we went on and on about how and this and that about the new rules for MLer Percussions, what's the news on them and what you can now do? Also he said PA Legalized Cross Bows too, Im not a Fan of them Unless your Handicapped or a Senior Citizen who can no longer Draw back a Bow. It to me takes all the (Learning) of becomming a Seasoned Archer and the real know hows of Archery out of Archery when just anyone can pick up a Cross Bow and think Now there a Archery Hunter and think there like a Gun and all you have to do is point it and shoot....to me there's gonna be a-lot of Wounded Deer out there that should'nt be because of this, just My OP. And what's worse is I hear NY is gonna have them Legal too next year.
Anyway Im glad all worked out for you and Im sure you'll fill the Freezer Full with some Tasty Morsels this Fall, Good Luck!
