Default 9-28 Scouting Trip

While it really was not eventful from the elk stand point - it still was fun...

Got there about 9:30 in the morning - thought that would be late enough that the elk would have moved back into the Thermal Cover... My goal was to find what route(s) they were using to get there... BIG PROBLEM.... the area that I thought would provide the cover... Potlatch is cable logging right across the creek. With the horns honking all the time as they pull logs up was bothering me - so I am sure that it makes the elk somewhat uncomfortable, but maybe not.

The route(s) that I thought they might use were not heavily used as I thought they might be. There definitely was activity but not heavy activity. So now I am thinking they might be using the timber to the northeast of the wet draw.

It was fun in that when I got up around the first ridge and looked up into the brush - I picked up a nice whitetail doe, she was about 100 yards off and had no idea I was there. Worked the camera out of my pocket and started taking some pictures. Then I thought I would see how close I might get. Made it to 50 yards and really thought I might get closer... but one of those ding darn tree squirrels decided to started a rukus. That got the doe to lift her head and start looking. I was in camo and thought I could wait here out, but I did not have a turkey face mask on and I think she finally figured out I was an I and I wasn't suppose to be there. She started stomping her front feet trying to get me to do something. Then she decided she had enough and hustled out of view. Mean while a second doe had not figured anything out so I got a picture of here...

Here are some pic's from this mornings outing....
