While I like nice firearms as much as anyone, you don't get much more accurate than you can get from a $400 Savage Model 10 or 110 from Walmart. They usually shoot sub moa groups, and are great rifles at a great price. Sure the stock could be nicer, but it's decent and that's about the only downfall to them. One of those and match it up with a nice scope, and you have a great rifle for not much money.

The Marlin XL-7/XS-7 line is another great budget gun. So nowadays there are some quality guns that are inexpensive in price yet still great guns.

Seems like what you get for higher prices now adays is nicer wood stocks and nicer fit and finish, but that's about the only difference.
