smyers717 sent me three 458 caliber 300g Barnes Socom bullets for to shoot into jugs. It was just simply wonderful weather wise here today, so i took them bullet to the hills. Before shooting they look like this.
One bullet was shot into paper, for to see where they would hit. The jugs before, during, and after the shoot.
The socom penetrated through, and scattered 5 jugs; then went someplace where i never could find it. This made me sad, and i looked, and looked, and looked for that bullet, but never did find it. A
video of the event.
Luckily there was 1 bullet, 1 jug, and 1 stack of phone book left, so i made another
video . Stills from the video, and some images.
The bullet penetrated through the first book, was found in the second book, but every page in the third book was ripped front to back. It weighs 297.6g. Two of them orange sabot were found. One in front of the jugs, and one was laying on the ground behind the jugs. It didn't appear the sabot were designed to be used with boat tail bullet, but for this excercise they seemed to do the job.
The orange sabot were actually 'loose' in my Accura, so i guess that is why
smyers717 suggested the black crush rib would be about right for the Accura. However, the load of 105g BH209 was ignited instantly by W209 primer all three times. Perhaps it was the home made breech plug that made this work.
