You have a nice game plot there.

For several years i planted the expensive oats. Then i found out that plain old horse feed oats grow just as well. The most cold tolerant oats that i've found are Chilocco oats at $15 per bag at our Co-Op. Last winter we had a bad ice storm that covered the gound for several days. The Chilocco oats survived very well.
