Every time I would glass these bucks nearly every single vehicle would pretty much stop and look at these deer. I could tell they were very edgy as these vehicles would stop and look. I figure they are now just lagging back a bit and not coming out until dark or later. What do you all think? I have my stand set on a funnel area that is the only cover anywhere for these deer to walk through to get to the beans. My stand is at least 100 yards back from the bean field. So even if they are coming out a little later I think my stand placement is still pretty good. I will be checking the trail cam probably this coming Tuesday. So, hopefully it will tell the tale.
Two years in a row I would see a monster 10 point all through the summer. Right around early August every year he would disapear and never be spotted again. No sight of him on stand, on trail cameras, fellow hunters spotting him, etc. The first year I was a bit flabbergasted, and also a bit nauive. It ended up being that the deer was going from his summer range to his fall range. I would have him on camera all summer and had him staked out just fine. Come later in the fall and I had no idea where he went.
I ended up finding out one day a few days before Halloween. Many of you may even recall the post about it from the main bowhunting forum. He was hit and killed by a car. It was about a mile or so away from where his summer range was. He ended up scoring 151"
Hell of a deer and unfortunately he went by way of vehicle. What a bummer.
Nonetheless, I would bet you watched those deer during their summer range. They change routines as the fall approaches. I would get those cameras out and figure out where he is now. If he has changed his range and you re-find his fall range--you are set.
