Default RE: Question about Conicals

The 275 grain maxi hunter is more then enough for a whitetail deer out to even 100 yards. If they shoot good, and you have nice tight groups and are comfortable you can place that shot in the proper place on a deer, all you need now is to see one...

Serious, that' s a great load for whitetail. I personally shoot patched round ball out of my .50 caliber with 70 grains of Pyrodex Select for deer. There is not a whitetail out there that can take a well placed roundball. A roundball is only 179 grains, so you are shooting a larger projectile and more powder. You are ready.

In my T/C Renegade which is a .54 caliber I shoot either roundball with a .015 patch on 80 grains of Pyrodex Select, or some 300 grain LEE conicals I make myself. I shoot a wonderwad and 90 grains of Select under them.

You have a great rifle there. And I have no doubt that when that deer crosses your path this season, and you place that maxiball in the right spot, you will have a great memory and venison. Good luck to you..
