The most important sense of a deer, whether it's gun season or anytime of the year is absolutely his sense of smell. To underestimate the deer's ability to smell (you) or any danger or threat, is tipping the scales in his favor. It is his #1 defensive mechanism (as mentioned many time before) and should never, ever be underestimated.

Also, when deer hunting, the wind is not important sometimes, it is important EVERY time. For those who don't appreciate this, it simply means, to me, you have no clue in how keen the deer's sense of smell is. Biologist say humans cannot comprehend how good it actually is.
