White clover, I like durana. Not quite perfect, but good as it gets. You will be missing good forage in the middle of summer some years and the middle of winter most years.

You will still have to do all the liming and fertilizing. It will probably be the second year before you get real good results.

Spray with roundup, then lime and fertilize according to a soil test. Ignore any nitrogen recommendation. Wait a month. Broadcast your seed(10 lbs/acre) into the dead but still standing weeds. The weeds will fall soon and mulch your seeds. You can also add 40 lbs/acre of rye to help protect the clover and add winter forage. Keep the weeds mowed or sprayed, once in june and once in august, the following summer.

It isn't going to be perfect, but it might surprise you.
