Why should it surprise you..??... Until the late 60s or early 70s when 3"mags became commonplace, a 30" full choke barrel was STATE OF THE ART for long range work such as turkey hunting... It certainly should shoot a good killing pattern of # 6 or perhaps even # 4 shot at 40 yards, with buffered 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 oz. loads..
