I guess my $3 8oz. spray cans of "Blaster" PB50 All-Purpose Lubricant from Home Depot are just an embarrassment.

It's just being thrifty. A few years ago i bought a whole bunch of Rem Oil and Pro-Tec bore cleaner from a Gibson's store that was going out of business. The prices on that stuff are 50 cents for the Rem Oil and 99 cents for the Pro Tec. Got a lifetime supply of both for around $30.
