The VDGIF is contempating a restocking/reintroduction program for Virginia as well, but with the costs estimated at between 1.9 to 2.9 million dollars is it really worth it? Will the state generate that much back to support the (sic) investment? Plus right now in Va, Elk are included with your Deer tags... if a reintroduction program came into play then there would need to be alottery program put in place such as Kentucky did. Virginia's western boarders has the terrain to support a good Elk herd, but it it really worth it? With me being from the eastern part of the state... would I apply for a tag if there were a ample herd to hunt? Undecided... but I more like the idea of getting a chance for one by going deer hunting on my friends western property and seeing one that strayed over the boarder from Kentucky!
