You guys have one heck of a grudge match going on about this topic.
I live in MD and yes I think the xbow should be only be utilized by those who are medically unstable to shoot a conventional bow, but I've been bow hunting in MD for almost 20 years now and I'm just set in my ways. Do I think the xbow guys are unsafe compared to bow hunters, No. Have times changed since the good old days of needing a medical condition to be able to get a xbow permit, Yes. Is the need to control the deer population in MD come to the realization that getting more deer hunters in the woods means giving everyone the right to use an xbow, Yes.
On a side note, I have an uncle who now uses an xbow, trust me his back fusions would be enough to get him the xbow permit, if that were the case. But I have to tell you, My Hoyt is much faster then his xbow, My hoyt is quieter then his xbow. Hell my Hoyt simply out performs his xbow across the board. Do I think it is easier to shoot an xbow (less muscle memory needed, or dexterity for that matter), sure but that is what he needs, because of his back issues. Would I ever consider using a xbow just because it's legal to and because it's easier to shoot, No. I like shooting my compound, but if others feel the need to shoot something different then I do, then so be it, who are we to judge what others do.
