gangly,
I've never seen a wire guard on a jig..

I've seen 2 differnt kinds...

A. 2 plastic fingers ....

B. FIber optic type stuff.

Also, I've never swam a jig..I simply cast and slowly bump it back to the boat..With the heat on only 3-4 hours to fish ...these are my best artificials this year for a weedy lake with different depths...

1st. Weedless Spinnerbait..good quick lure that covers alot of space and catches all sized fish..

2nd...6- 8 inch rubber worm dark colors..great lure but takes too much time to fish effectively

3rd ..Fluke...always woth a try to fish on top or with split shot 18inches up..has produced good for me this year..

4th..on schooling jumping fish faithfull ROOSTER TAIL is the best choice here,,

These are my top 4 artificails this year..they are always tied on their favorite rod and reel and are ready to go to work at any given cast..

other lures being tried as well but not producing..

Jigs, rattle traps, diving cranks, various top waters including Horney Toad..Mepps Comet, and Little George ,
They will stay on the bench..

StrikeKing and Terminators have made the ALL STAR team and the rubber worm will always be my DH..
I like baseball too..GO TAMPA BAY RAYS
