Citronella as it does work is a weak repellent. As long say your dog has been given the monthly heartworm pill - being bitten by skeeters will really do nothing.

Now to keep them off your dog in a kennel poses a tough problem. There are devices on the market that work well but are expensive.

They do make Carbon Dioxide skeeter traps and they do work

Fogging around the kennel might help too.

I have used Deet type repellents on my dogs but more so for the stable flies and I never spray the dog direct but treat my hands to wipe in on the dogs ears from there.

Goggle using several key words and you might find help but with animals and skeeters it is a tough problem
