That is a good deal, and used is always a good idea if you can find one that's been taken care of.
A few nicks and dings here and there does not necessarily indicate poor care. Could just mean some good hard use and cared for properly afterward. If the action is clean and it functions properly with a decently clean looking bore then for the right price a few "war wounds" can be overlooked.
