I also have found out that a favorite lure and catch a lot of smaller fish when the big ones just wouldn't bother with it

Amen Phil...happened to me today..I was trying out my new fish finder / depth finder..I caught some small ones but the big ones..no way.
favorite today..Strike King Spinnerbait..However; favorites are subject to change daily.LOL
