I leave my Ol Man frequently If you are careful about scent control I don' t see that as a big problem. As for the deer finding it...I hadn' t thought about that When I do leave it I use a vinyl coated bicycle lock. I think it is quieter than chain. Haven' t had any problems with it spooking deer to my knowledge
