Clear a few trees out and plant white clover, it grows most of the year and only needs to be mowed during the summer for weed control. Deer feed on it all winter when other plots are gone or dead. You don't have disc or plow the ground, just kill the other plants with Round Up and disturb the soil for good contact and you have a plot. You can get your seed from a local farm/feed store and it runs about $3 a pound and it only takes a couple pounds per acre. It is the same thing as the high priced clover from a hunting supplier.
