Congrats Chuck! You got arguably one of the best deer cartridges you could get. Id argue it anyways because I have the same gun.. Mine will shoot anything I feed it well with the exception of the 150 Speer Hot cors. I have mostly used the 130 gr blue box federals. Same ones Wal mart sells for 13.97. ive got a 3x9x40 Nikon pro Staff on mine with loopy dual dovetail mounts and low rings. Maybe consider a trigger job for it also. Far as bullet weight... the 270 was built for 130 grainers. It does great with other weights also but the 130's are the ticket for the deer you are describing.
