Most times I never use them. I believe some guys are using them as a crutch and think you can't kill a bird without one. Now if you are hunting a wide open space it may help you out but if there is any cover to speak of they are not needed. I like to work a bird in and keep him looking for the "hen". Many times a gobbler will see the deke and stay out and wait for the hen to come on out to him. If he thinks the hen may be slipping away and can't see it then they will slip on in and try and find her.
